BIOGRAPHY
Ron’s passion for the Arts has taken him on a journey of over forty award-winning years as an arts administrator/consultant and professional artist in Canada. He has worked in several communities throughout Western Canada where he has been heavily involved as a performer, director, writer and producer in dance, theatre and film. His teaching experiences at post-secondary institutions involve instruction in major Theatre Studies and Motion Picture Arts Programs (including Red Deer College, University of Alberta and Keyano College). In addition to these skills, Ron has experience utilizing arts and culture for community development. Recently, in his role as College President at the Canadian College of Performing Arts, Ron nurtured young artists as they trained to work professionally in the performing arts Industry.
Ron brings a rich background of experiences in the Professional Film and Performing Arts Industries to his work with Talented Unlimited Inc. Highlights of some of his accomplishments include; Co-Founder and Co-Artistic Director of the professional Musical Theatre troupe, Kompany! that toured nationally and internationally for 28 years, facilitated numerous film training programs and International film festivals for the National Screen Institute of Canada, worked on several professional film crews for TV series, Short Films and Movies in the Assistant Director Department plus he wrote, produced and directed 2 short films and choreographed numerous television commercials and music videos.
Ron has worked in the non-profit sector as an Arts Consultant for numerous years and has a long list of successes. His consulting work in Red Deer, Alberta garnered him a Mayor's award for excellence in the Performing Arts. A partial list of projects that he was proudest to achieve include;
Implementing the “Red Deer Community Cultural Master Plan” in conjunction with the City of Red Deer and a team of community members.
Project Management for 10 simultaneous projects that resulted from winning the first “Cultural Capitals of Canada Award - 2003” that was awarded to a mid-sized city.
Developed a successful bid & served as Culture Director for 2006 Alberta Summer Games in Red Deer which were applauded for their organization and creativity.
Purchased a building of historical significance and developed it into a new artspace (The Scott Block) for a non-profit Society.
Developed and maintained a business plan in his role as College President, that resulted in an increase to the annual operational budget of a National Private Post Secondary Training Institution from just under $1 million to more than $2 million.
